North Harford High School Envirothon Team Celebrates their Third consecutive state victory

The North Harford High School Envirothon Team has once again earned first place at the Maryland Envirothon, marking the school’s third consecutive state title. The 2025 competition took place June 11–12, 2025, at the Western Maryland 4-H Park in Swanton, Maryland, and featured top teams from across the state competing in environmental science and natural resource management challenges.

Team members Frank DeLucia, Jacob Jestel, Jonathan VanBuskirk, Ryan Layman, and Samantha Hawk represented North Harford in this year’s competition. The team earned top honors after demonstrating their knowledge and problem-solving skills across five subject areas: aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife, and the current issue topic, Roots and Resiliency – Fostering Forest Stewardship in a Canopy of Change.

This year’s victory continues a strong legacy for North Harford High School, with several team members returning from last year’s winning team. Their experience and leadership contributed to a strong showing at every stage of the event.

The team will go on to represent the state of Maryland at the 2025 NCF-Envirothon, which will be held July 20–26 at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The Envirothon program is designed to help students build knowledge in environmental science while gaining hands-on experience with real-world environmental challenges. Locally, the program is supported by the Harford Soil Conservation District, which has worked with students and schools across the county for more than 30 years.
