Seven members of the North Harford High School FFA Chapter kicked off their summer break with an unforgettable trip to the Maryland State FFA Convention, held at Wisp Resort and Garrett College. While the mountain air may have brought cooler temperatures, our students brought the heat with a series of top finishes and a first-place team title.
The North Harford FFA Forestry Team earned first place overall, qualifying for the National FFA Convention later this year. Team members Nina Firld, Sammie Hawk, Auna Walker, and Autumn Ferguson all placed in the top 10 individually, with Nina earning 1st place, Sammie 2nd, Auna 4th, and Autumn 8th.
Individual competitors also shined in the speaking events:
Kira Ann Loudermilk placed 8th in Junior Extemporaneous Public Speaking.
Izabella De Souza and Lena Groff competed in the FFA Creed Speaking Contest, finishing 9th and 10th, respectively.
Beyond competitions, students explored the agricultural richness of Western Maryland with visits to Deep Creek Lavender Farm, Simon Pearce Glassblowing, All Produce and Greenhouses, and Split Acres Maple Syrup.
The convention also brought recognition for one of our own educators. Mrs. Densmore, North Harford’s dedicated FFA advisor, was nominated for an Honorary American FFA Degree—one of the highest honors awarded by the National FFA Organization.
Congratulations to all of our FFA members on their incredible achievements and representation of North Harford High School at the state level. We can’t wait to cheer on the Forestry Team at Nationals!
